statement

I create installations and drawings which adopt repetition, pattern and the grid to communicate information beyond my materials’ physical limitations. This process of making connects my thoughts to the physical world.

My work is sensual, social and political in any combination. It’s often composed of a dense accumulation of ordinary materials methodically positioned through a labor-intensive process, allowing the materials to transcend their perceived function. Within the order of a grid, I allow the imperfections of my actions to deify the implied perfection and logic of the underlying structure, giving my making an importance that is equal to, if not becoming the work itself and its temporal nature.

Through the work, time is implicit and results in a form. I use the grid as a connecter for the materials and to reference its historical significance in quilting and high modernism (craft and art). Both employ the grid as a vehicle yet craft is regulated to a separate, unequal category.

By juxtaposing permanence with the temporal, seemingly frivolous materials are intentional positioned for intimate, careful consideration.
